The Analytics practice is a key source of the strategic advice we provide to senior client management. As our clients' data is becoming increasingly big and complicated, the need for high quality statistical analysis is growing rapidly. OC&C is regularly tasked with problems where the answers are hidden in large, messy and complex data sets such as transaction data, customer-behaviour data and web data. The Analytics practice works in teams alongside our strategy colleagues to unearth insights, identify recommendations and communicate them persuasively to our clients. Analytics is therefore an increasingly important part of what OC&C does and growing rapidly as a practice

As part of the Analytics team, you can expect to work both with other technical experts as well as with the strategy team. You will need to be interested in solving strategic problems for our clients, which means pragmatic solutions on strategy consulting timescales. Project lengths are 2-12 weeks, so you will encounter a great variety of problems in different sectors. You will be in a supportive environment, where everyone is pulling together to deliver a great answer in the most efficient way possible.

The Manager role centres on project delivery with some involvement business development as part of the practice team.  A Manager will typically work on a single project at a time but will also be involved as part of the practice team in developing pitches, writing proposals, or longer-range business development activity.

Specifically, the Manager role involves:

  • Leading analytics projects, from designing the approach to overseeing analysis to synthesising findings (c70 – 80% of focus)

  • Supporting on larger strategy projects with an analytics component (c20 – 30% of focus)
  • Leading OC&C project teams (typically 3-6 people on a project), including assisting team members to develop consulting skills; i.e. helping motivated and talented individuals to progress quickly.
  • Building strong working relationships with client contacts during projects, and beginning to build a personal network
  • Supporting sector team efforts to reinforce OC&C’s position as leaders in strategy consultancy in our chosen areas

Responsibilities:

  • Direct and manage analysis and delivery of consulting projects, ensuring client satisfaction
  • Manage and motivate project teams…
  • … and support the development and coaching of junior team members
  • Work effectively with clients and other advisors
  • Translate strategy and business needs into actionable recommendations
  • Deliver against deadlines
  • Assist in the design and delivery of client pitches and proposals
  • Support the development of IP (in the form of publications, conference presentations, etc)

About The Candidate

Skills & Background:

Analytics expertise:

  • High level of proficiency in data collection and preparation for modelling: data extraction, cleaning, merging, and profiling.
  • Experience in statistical analyses and modelling

  • Deep knowledge of applying supervised and unsupervised learning algorithms to problems related to customer segmentation, behaviour prediction, response modelling, and/or similar.

  • Expert in programming with Python

Relevant work experience:

  • Outstanding track record of problem-solving, and achieving / exceeding objectives in a analytics project-based environment, with the equivalent of c6 -10 years’ experience of complex analytics and/or strategy consulting projects, including experience from a blue chip and / or strategy consultancy group
  • Interest in, and experience of, some part of the Digital landscape
  • Experience of managing workstreams and leading consulting teams
  • Experience in developing and coaching people
  • Experience in translating key client issues into clear deliverables and implementing this advice

Ideal Candidate:

  • Will have demonstrated the highest level of academic achievement with and a degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics or another quantitative field
  • Analytical, highly numerate, clear thinkers who are hypothesis and issue driven
  • Intellectually curious, rigorous and creative
  • Commercially aware, able to recognise critical issues and dedicate attention accordingly

  • Effective communicators, in writing or verbally, able to adapt style for different internal and external audiences

  • Pragmatic, enthusiastic and structured implementers with an ability to create and maintain pace whilst ensuring that energies are well focussed and channelled
  • Interested in coaching and developing people and building a team

  • Able to relate well to clients and colleagues

  • Strong business ethics: honest, respectful of others and sensitive to diversity in all its forms

  • Business level fluency in multiple languages is beneficial but not essential
