Working with the Head of ESG (a Partner on OC&C’s management committee), the ESG Manager will help to ensure OC&C is operating in the most socially and environmentally responsible way possible.
The ESG Manager is a newly created role, responsible for driving key elements of OC&C’s ESG agenda forward, in line with the ESG strategy that is set by Cabinet and Head of ESG.
These key elements focus on our overall ESG / B-Corp journey, measurement of our ESG impact, and ESG reporting (internally and externally).
The early years of this role will be more focused on establishing our baseline and driving specific initiatives, but over time, the role will evolve as our firm’s ESG journey evolves, providing increasing scope for thought-leadership and owning the ESG agenda. OC&C’s ESG vision isn’t a particular end state but a continuous refinement and improvement on who we are and how we interface with the world. The ESG Manager role, therefore, will also evolve, providing growth opportunities for an ambitious and passionate individual who wants to drive change and have real impact.
About The Candidate
Responsibilities include:

• Own the global measurement and tracking of our ESG performance against key metrics, particularly our B-Corp scores and carbon footprint measurement

• Act as key liaison with B-Labs on the B-Corp certification process, understanding the details of the metrics and interpretation of all elements of the framework as well as navigating us through the certification process when the time comes

• Recommend prioritisation of key initiatives to move us toward B-Corp status, working with ESG office leads to understand feasibility of improvement on key metrics and set quarterly targets for improvement as well as a roadmap to certification

• Once B-Corp certification achieved, continue to identify key material improvements on B-Corp metrics and agree initiatives with ESG office leads to ensure we continue to drive change and improve our positive impact as a firm

• Liaise with the ESG office leads and key stakeholders by office to help track initiatives, identify roadblocks, help navigate issues and keep us moving toward progress in a timely fashion

• Lead on some of the global B-Corp initiatives to coordinate the changes required, working with Business Services (Finance, HR, IT, Office Managers) colleagues or Office Heads to make change happen

• Work with business services colleagues and our travel providers to gather increasingly sophisticated views on our carbon footprint, beyond what is measured by B-Corp, and work with ESG office leads to identify opportunities to reduce our footprint

• Identify how and where to offset our carbon footprint (although our goal is to drive reduction as well!)

• Provide ad-hoc input into ongoing office dialogue where there is a sustainability or ESG lens (e.g. events, office moves, etc.) to ensure ESG considerations are fed into decision-making

• In initial year(s), coordinate annual internal reporting on ESG in addition to ad-hoc progress updates throughout the year; in later years, own the gathering of data and the writing of annual impact reports as well

• Coordinate and ensure compliance with any other reporting requirements on ESG, such as B-Corp recertification and annual publication of B-Corp scores/report

• Research frameworks for impact measurement and reporting over time as new ‘standards’ emerge – recommending when and where OC&C may want to incorporate into our ESG agenda (e.g. UN Global Compact etc.)

• Work with marketing, recruiting and other business services colleagues to help communicate our ESG agenda and impact, particularly how we use any certification and kitemarks as well as how we eventually publish impact statements and reports

• Stay on top of key ESG trends to help drive our overall vision and strategy over time
Key Skills and Experience 
• Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills

• Passion for environmental and social impact within a business/commercial context

• Experience in project management and oversight, directly managing multiple initiatives and coordinating across others

• At least 2-3 years in a similar ESG role, ideally in professional services

• Detailed knowledge of ESG as it applies to professional services firms – and knowledge of various common frameworks and approaches to measuring impact and reporting as well as applicable legislation

• Practical experience of environmental and social data collection, managing ESG certifications and implementing sustainability initiatives

• Ability to liaise with a range of business stakeholders internally and externally, building strong relationships, including motivating, delegating and influencing to help drive change
• Excellent team working skills

• Self-starter, with high scope to use own judgement and work autonomously and drive own agenda

• Holds self accountable for quality of work and output

• Ability to set deadlines and manage within them

• Ability to learn quickly, to process a lot of new / detailed / sometimes conflicting information, and to prioritise

• Numerical analytical skills, including Excel, with a strong attention to detail
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

• Ideally Practitioner Member of IEMA or equivalent, with education in environmental or social sustainability
